Mining City Challenge set to resume in Butte

PIKEVILLE, KY (January 3, 2008) –The East Kentucky Miners will take on the host Butte Daredevils Thursday, Jan. 3 and Friday, Jan. 4 at the Butte Civic Center as part of the Mining City Challenge. Butte and Silver Bow County officials challenged Pike County and Pikeville officials earlier in the year. After a two-game series played in Pikeville at the Expo Center in December, both teams own one victory apiece.

Both Continental Basketball Association teams call tradition-rich mining towns home. Butte is a copper town. Pikeville is known for its coal mining.

The games in Butte will determine the winner and who will receive the local dish of choice for the miners. If Butte wins, its officials will receive fried potatoes and biscuits. if Pikeville wins, its officials will receive pasties.

East Kentucky went 1-1 last week in Atlanta in a two-game series versus the Krunk. The Miners are 10-11 and ranked fourth in the American Conference. Minot (12-5) leads in the American Conference standings. Butte is 12-7 and ranked second in the National Conference. The Daredevils are behind CBA frontrunner Yakama (18-1) in the National Conference standings.

Tip-off for both of the upcoming Butte-East Kentucky games is slated for 6:15 p.m.
